Where to eat in Surendranagar
The district eats well and eats early. Thali at lunch, fafda–jalebi at 8 am, dabeli at any hour, and mohanthal to take home. Here's where, street by street.
The classics
What to order
Kathiawadi thali
Dal, kadhi, two shaaks, rotli, rice, farsan, buttermilk and a sweet. Unlimited and honest — the lunch ritual of the district. Look for the busiest place on Station Road at 1 pm.
Dabeli
Spicy-sweet potato filling in a soft pav, garnished with pomegranate and sev. Surendranagar's street snack of record — every corner has a cart.
Fafda–jalebi
The 8 am ritual: crisp fafda with chutney and a syrupy jalebi. Best eaten standing at a market stall with the morning paper crowd.
Mohanthal & sukhdi
The festival sweets. Mohanthal (gram-flour fudge) and sukhdi (whole-wheat ghee sweet) from any halwai — and the reason Diwali shoppers queue.

Eat with the calendar
Diwali means mohanthal and sukhdi from every halwai. Navratri at Chotila means prasad and the foothill fair's street stalls. Uttarayan means rooftop snacks and tea. The festival calendar tells you when to plan your eating around the crowds — or around the sweets.
