Surendranagar Junction on the Ahmedabad–Rajkot–Mumbai line: 2–2.5 hr from Ahmedabad, 1–1.5 hr from Rajkot; Vande Bharat serves the corridor. Airports: Rajkot-Hirasar ~100 km, Ahmedabad ~130 km.
2 · Best time
November–February is the honest sweet spot. March–May is 45°C +. June–September is monsoon — green, humid, and the Rann tracks can shut after heavy rain.

FAQ
Planning questions, answered
How many days do I need?
One full day covers the city, Wadhwan and a relaxed Chotila. Two days is the sweet spot for most first-timers. Add the Rann and you need 3, ideally with an overnight at Dasada.
Is two hours enough between trains at the Junction?
For the city tower, the market and a thali — yes, comfortably. Wadhwan needs a clear half-day, and Chotila a full day or a long morning.
Should I book the Rann safari in advance?
Yes — in winter and all holiday weeks, permit slots and lodges fill early. Book the jeep and permit with your lodge, or at the forest gate first thing in the morning.
Can I do Chotila and Tarnetar in one day?
Technically yes (they're on the same highway, ~60–70 km apart), but you'll be at the fairground late and rushed. Better: Chotila sunrise, then Thangadh ceramics, Tarnetar overnight if it's fair week.
